Union favours harbour over road
WHETHER the State Government goes with the $1.6b Perth Freight Link (PFL) or performs an unlikely backflip and brings forward development of an outer harbour at Cockburn Sound, the Transport Workers Union says current conditions are not helping drivers.WA branch secretary Tim Dawson said the stop-start nature and congestion of the road network out of Fremantle and along Leach Highway was causing undue stress on truck drivers.
“All the stopping and starting, the number of cars on the road – people should sit in a truck and see the pressure on the drivers. It can be horrendous,” he said. “It’s not good for stress and fatigue and something has to be done.”
